Change in Style of Education due to NEP 2020
hought process in a child begins at every young age. NEP 2020 has given due care for early childhood care education ECCE through preschools and anganwadi where they are introduced to education at an early age of 3. The purpose is to gradually bring them to formal education through activity based learning. Focusing on Foundational literacy and numeracy will enable them to read and comprehend language and perform basic operational processes in mathematics. This early commencement of education is deliberated with due diligence on their health and development through Health cards. The NEP 2020 also empowers multilingualism. For a child who is introduced to education for the first time, communicating in mother tongue will make it comfortable than any other new language. Introducing English gradually will make conceptual learning efficient. The aim is to make learning more pleasurable than to induce pressure. However, introducing mother tongue will not curtail dropout, as language is not the only barrier to continue education, but socio economic condition and privileges. Enthusiasm to learn needs to be brought in their minds as a measure to retain education system. However, introducing Lok Vidhya to protect the national heritage and various cultures of India is in clash with the practicing westernization. Educating children to focus on Indian culture and ethos and promoting global education is contradictory unless they are taught to think globally and act locally.
Not only children, but teachers are also esteemed as uncompromised assets to the educational system. Hence it is crucial to train teachers to imbibe the core values of NEP by getting them familiarized, trained and given awareness starting from the grassroots and given continuous professional development. Lately the whole educational sector positively took up challenges during the pandemic and technology made it possible for education to progress. Pandemic brought a lot of positive change in the teaching fraternity making teachers and children in line with future requirements like ICT skills and online tools
Importance of Multilingual Approach For Learning
National Education Policy, 2020 (NEP) is a game changer that encourages educational institutions to create a better future for this country with its focus on transforming India as a global superpower. To implement it the best way the focus has to be on training teachers to imbibe the core values of NEP and work for the holistic development of children and not the rote system of examination. Focus must be on suiting children to think out of the box, inculcating life skills required by the 21st century that would make them fit enough to survive the future. Education is for the future.
Not just education, but a child ending up in the right career that matches their innate skills or interest is also crucial to building the resource of the nation. People today were been driven by the opinions of others when they landed in a career. But their basic excellence may not have matched the career they pursued because having schools with career counselors to instill them with ideas on various opportunities may not have been an option for them while growing up. But according to NEP 2020 students will be guided through this crucial decision with professional help.
NEP 2020 Through The Eyes of an Award Winning Educator
NEP 2020 aims to provide highest quality education to every student in the country. Currently there is gap in the education system between learning objective and outcome and NEP brought the focus on outcome based learning. To fit into the needs of the future, the future youth needs to be empowered and equipped with all the 21st century skills.
Few notable features would include ECCE that lays foundation to learning and the curriculum will be redesigned to emphasise on Foundational literacy and numeracy. It also ensures universal access to education at all levels and promotes 100% gross enrolment in preschool and aims to curtail dropouts by 2035 by introducing counsellors, open/distance learning and support for gifted /specially talented students to empower them through various circles to develop their competencies in different skills. Curriculum and pedagogy is expected to be creative to make the learning holistic, integrated, inclusive, enjoyable and engaging. This is a gradual shift from play based learning towards more formal interactive classroom involving learning and discussion of more abstract concepts and multi-disciplinary study; hence there will be no gap in the flow of learning. Multilingualism is another notable factor of NEP 2020 which is also enhanced by national textbook with local content, so students will be aware of both national and local information.
This policy will not be authorised at once, it will be a timely implementation of parts and reviewed after a significant period before it is finally set. It will not be effective if enough time is not spent to know, understand and analyse the environment before fixing to the strategy. Ignoring small things during the implementation process will accumulate and lead to huge mistakes.
